Marie Kondo:
the life-changing magic of tidying up

This is a book where I CAN actually include “spoilers” since, (spoiler), this book will CHANGE YOUR LIFE!!  … and there are not plot twists I can ruin by telling you why it will!

More so than ever we have all been stuck in our homes; left staring at all our things and our disarray.  It’s okay, don’t worry about it!  We ALL have junk drawers and items lurking behind closet doors we don’t want anyone to see.  The good news is Marie Kondo has a very Zen way of helping you purge items you don’t really need.  Did I lose you with the “purge” comment?  If I did, it’s okay and also, there might be another organizing book that would better suit you that I will have another review for soon.

Now, if the idea of purging items you don’t need or items that don’t “bring you joy” and Marie puts it, gets you excited- then this book is for you!  Guess what?  If you don’t like to read about things like this there is a Netflix series on this book as well that I highly recommend you watch instead.

Main points of this book and how it changed my life:

  • You only keep items that bring you joy.  FOR REAL.  No more looking in your closet and dreading what you find because you’ll LOVE everything.  (Side note:  it might not all fit, but she doesn’t think that’s a problem!
  • Goodbye clutter.
  • This can apply to all areas of your home.  She walks you through step by step on how to do it without getting overwhelmed.
  • I learned how to fold my clothes from this book and now my drawers look better than ever!

Keep only those things that speak to your heart.  Then take the plunge and discard all the rest.  By doing this, you can reset your life and embark on a new lifestyle.

— Marie Kondo

Star Rating: 7 out of 10.

Summary

This book is a little slow to read, but the information is priceless. I didn't take everything she said to heart, but I did use a lot of her tools and have a much more organzied home to show for it. Did I hug and thank the items I got rid of? OF COURSE I did! It was the best part... don't knock it until you've tried it!
